The difference could not have been any more prominent. A virtual reality apparatus, motion capturing suits and 3D animations – in front of a backdrop of dozens of oldtimers and classic cars. On 18 May 2017, the STAR Expert Day went on tour and pitched its tent at MOTORWORLD Region Stuttgart. Just a stone’s throw away from our headquarters in Böblingen, we were diligently supported by our partner atec innovation. The topic of this Expert Day on tour: Capture Reality! Humans in virtual reality.
Humans and virtual reality? How is that possible?
Oliver Messer, Managing Director of STAR SYSTEMS, took over the task of greeting the app. 30 guests. He gave a brief introduction to STAR and showed the listeners what they could expect today. And how important digitization has become for the STARS. But before the practical showcases could be startet, Georg Krüger of STAR and Tim Stegmann of atec took the stage.
Georg Krüger is Senior Expert for Virtual Engineering at ours and introduced virtual reality as a future-oriented communications and decision assistance tool, for it brings to mind the future through visualization. This quite philosophical presentation was followed by Tim Stegmann, atec’s Managing Director, with an introduction to capture reality and an outlook on the prototypes already developed, that the guests could test themselves afterwards.

Afterwards, the two partners had set up five practical stations where the Expert Day on tour’s guests could test the different applications themselves. They could operated a virtual automotive test bench with the help of VR glasses and controllers. With a Zelos motion capturing suit, they could check their own posture and optimize their dumbbell training success. Or you could even walk through the kindergarten for Bundesgartenschau Heilbronn 2018, that is not even built yet.
The guests were impressed with the variety of already possible applications and joined in excitedly. And the STAR experts as well as their partners from atec were also very happy with their first Expert Day on tour: We surely will do that again!
