Sometimes, one word says it all. Many of Sigrid Artmann’s works come into existence with this thought in mind. For the first STAR Insight event of the year 2016, the STAR COOPERATION presented the acclaimed Artist from Ludwigsburg with her exhibition entitled „SO“ this past Thursday.
Traditional craft in modern times
Despite her lively appearance, her path towards calligraphy was already predetermined in her childhood. Her handwriting regularly earned high marks and her exercise books brimmed over with ornaments and embellishments. Decades later, she jumped in at the deep end and turned her passion for the ancient craft into a career – never mind WhatsApp or smart phones. Whether it is a classic canvas, an old piece of wood or a disused street sign – she always finds the right base for her artistry.
Important in this context: Less is more. The more reduced a message, the more room for interpretation. Sigrid Artmann‘s aim is to trigger thinking processes with her art. That is why she regularly seeks contact with the people around her as a performance artist and, without further ado, turns the sidewalk into her atelier. At STAR Insight, she led the enthusiastic guest through the exhibition which will stay with the STAR COOPERATION until mid-April, and you could see her discuss the different interpretations of her works for a long time after.
